Review: Then I Met You – The Cleansing Duo
Then I Met You…. A brand that’s more than just skincare.
This brand was created by Charlotte Cho, also known as the founder of Soko Glam. Being a long time follower of Soko Glam, I knew Then I Met You was something special. Then I Met You currently has two products, the Living Cleansing Balm and the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel. Together, they make the Cleansing Duo. The perfect pair for a double cleanse. If you’ve never double cleansed before or want to learn how, I’ve written a blog post about it here!
Before I dive into the details of the duo, I want to highlight that this brand is a clean beauty brand. It’s formulated without mineral oil, alcohol, silicone, parabens, artificial coloring and synthetic fragrances. It’s also completely vegan and fits all skin types, even the most sensitive ones.
Now, into the luxurious details of this wonderful duo..
First, the Living Cleansing Balm: an oil-based cleanser that melts into your skin like butter with the most uplifting and invigorating scent I’ve ever smelled. Not to mention that gorgeous marigold color, too. Because it’s formulated without artificial coloring, the bright color actually comes from seaberry oil extract. This product is like a feast for your eyes. It’s nothing like I’ve ever used before, definitely one of a kind.
It has seaberry oil, olive oil, and grapeseed oil, known for being nourishing, anti-aging, and full of antioxidants. It also contains vitamin E, which helps with premature aging. And my favorite ingredient, persimmon extract, it’s a natural skin brightener and helps control sebum production aiding in preventing breakouts.
Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Trii-sostearate, PEG-8 Isostearate, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Ceresin, Synthetic Wax, Orbiignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Diospyros Kaki Fruit Extract, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer
How to use: Apply a dime-sized scoop of the balm onto dry skin and massage throughly in a circular motion, add water to emulsify, then wash off completely with water.
With a smooth and buttery texture, it’s constantly being compared to mango sorbet. The balm glides on thick, but once it’s massaged into your skin, it transforms into a thin and lightweight oil.
I can’t even being to describe how incredible the scent is. The aroma is really what makes this cleansing balm my holy grail. Not only does it effectively remove my makeup and sunscreen off so well, it has a hint of citrus that makes me look forward to washing my face every night. As for the packaging, the periwinkle blue and the marigold is a match made in heaven. It compliments my vanity so well and it’s really aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Final thoughts: Once I’ve tried this oil cleanser, I can’t imagine using any other oil-based cleanser. I’ve tried Banila Co., Farmacy, other oil cleansers, micellar water, etc. and nothing comes close. The texture, smell, and how effective it is checks off all the boxes for me.
After using the Living Cleansing Balm, I continue with the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel. This cleansing gel is unlike any cleanser I have ever tried. It has a bouncy, jelly-like texture that is incomparable. Personally, this cleansing gel is very underrated, I seriously love the gel more than the balm. Pairing the two will do wonders for your skin.
Formulated with sake and licorice root, these two ingredients helps brighten and even out your skin tone. It also contains green tea and tea tree leaf, which is rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory benefits. Included in this cleanser is PHA, a natural exfoliator and skin brightener to reveal soft and smooth skin.
Ingredients: Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake), Aqua (Water/Eau), Sorbitol, Glycerin, Acrylates/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Copolymer, Diethylhexyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, 1,2 Hexanediol, Disodium Laureth Sulfo-succinate, Diglycerin, Potassium Cocoate, Propylene Glycol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Panthenol, Gluconolactone, Butylene Glycol, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Ethylhexylglycerin, T-Butyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate
How to use: Squeeze out a pea-sized amount and lather onto damp skin. Wash off throughly with water and pat dry.
The texture of this cleansing gel makes it so fun to wash my face. Because this cleanser isn’t formulated with sulfates, it won’t lather and bubble up like your traditional cleansers. As for the scent, it’s similar to a medicinal or herbal tea, it can take some time getting used to if you’re not familiar with the scent. I personally love it so much because it reminds me of my childhood; I used to frequent herbal shops with my mom and the scent of this gel brings me home every time.
Together, this cleansing duo is a match made in heaven. Using these two is honestly such a soothing experience, I have sensitive and oily skin and these products have been nothing but gentle and kind to my face.
As for double cleansing, this duo is gentle enough to be used for double cleansing day and night. Personally, I double cleanse at night and in the mornings, I only use the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel. It’s just a personal preference of mine, but this duo can be used day and night!
You can purchase the Cleansing Duo (or each of the cleansers separately) exclusively on thenimetyou.com. The Living Cleansing Balm is priced at $38 and the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel is priced at $36. You can also get it as a set for $68. These prices are a bit higher than usual for my skincare range, but the with the high quality ingredients and the amount of product that I’m getting, I know that this is a great investment for my skin.
Final thoughts: this brand, the products, all of it, is something that I can get behind. I can’t find a single flaw in these products, and after a month of usage, it’s easily made its way into my holy grail list. I can see myself repurchasing the duo time after time. These cleansers are so unique in so many ways. I have a newfound love for double cleansing.
I was gifted the Cleansing Duo, but all opinions are my own. Thank you for reading & take care! – xoxo, Annie.
