Sheet Masks: An At Home Facial
Whenever I don’t feel like doing my nighttime skincare routine, I just slap on a sheet mask. It gives my skin a boost of hydration and a nice plump look and feel to it. I try to do it about once a week or once every 2 weeks. I even completed the 7 day sheet mask challenge! My face felt like a baby’s butt afterwards.
Sheet masks are the 8th step in the 10 step Korean skincare routine. This isn’t a step that you have to do everyday! You can use sheet masks whenever you feel that your skin is dull, dry, or needs a little pick me up. Essentially, sheet masks are infused with a concentrated essence that you apply and it adheres onto your skin for 15-20 mins.
How I choose my sheet masks: I try to find ones with hyaluronic acid or anything extremely moisturizing like rice extract, snail extract, rose extract, aloe, green tea, or honey. You should avoid sheet masks with alcohol high up the list or anything with a strong fragrance! For most skin types, alcohol will dry out skin, and can even burn if you have sensitive skin. Strong fragrances, especially those that are man-made, can irritate the skin.
There are different types of sheet masks: hydrogel sheet masks and cotton sheet masks are most common ones! I’ve also used sheet masks that have a clear essence or a creamy opaque essence. Don’t be alarmed at the consistencies! Majority, if not all, will give you very similar results.
Now you know what sheet masks are, here are some of my recommendations and favorites!
Manefit Natural Gift Green Tea Pore Care Sheet Mask ($5)
This is probably the best hydrogel mask that I’ve ever used! I love hydrogel masks because it doesn’t drip and it’s perfect for those hot summer nights. I throw these in the fridge for the ultimate cool down.
Manefit Beauty Planner Honey Sheet Mask Set ($10)
Always a sucker for anything honey! Honey is such an amazing antibacterial ingredient. It helps with acne and breakouts. This mask will calm down redness and any inflammation you may have.
Manefit Beauty Planner Lily Sheet Mask Set ($10)
A combo of lily extract and niacinamide to get rid of of hyperpigmentation and brighten uneven skin tone! I must mention that it smells amazing too. The lily extract is light, yet refreshing.
KLAVUU WHITE Pearlsation Pearl Serum Mask ($9)
Klavuu’s face wash gave me such good results, I had to get the sheet mask too. It contains pearl extract to brighten and firm! The mask is more on the expensive side, so this is definitely a mask to splurge on.
My Skin Mentor Dr. G Aqua Collagen Mask (Pack of 10) ($30)
Literally the coolest mask I’ve ever used. These are also the perfect sheet masks to throw in the fridge and use after a hot day. The collagen keeps my face plump and hydrated.
A'PIEU Coffee Milk Sheet Mask 4 Pack ($10)
As a lover of coffee, the packaging really won me over! The mask also smells like a latte. It’s a very hydrating mask, containing milk extract and hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin.
Innisfree Fermented Soybean Bio Cellulose Mask ($6)
Probably the best sheet mask I’ve ever used in my entire life. I can’t even begin to describe how unique these masks are! They’re so thin, it almost feels like tissue paper. I love this mask because it sticks so well to my skin and it doesn’t budge. It’s formulated with fermented soybeans to deeply hydrate and brighten your skin.
Innisfree My Real Squeeze Mask ($1.80)
It comes in a variety of scents: cucumber, green tea, bamboo, aloe, manuka honey, pomegranate, lime, and tea tree! I’ve used majority of these and they all give me very similar results. They’re so light and refreshing, each sheet mask is a solid in my book.
Memebox I Dew Care Lets Get Sheet Faced Masks ($25)
I got this box as a gift! It contains 14 sheet masks for $25. I’ve only used the Unwind and Up All Night mask and both have been amazing! The sheet masks are made with eucalyptus fibers for the ultimate comfort.
These are just a few of my tried and true favorites. There are so many more out there to choose from. The possibilities and extracts are endless! Happy masking!
