How to REALLY Minimize Your Pores

How to REALLY Minimize Your Pores

Everyone wants smooth, pore-less, porcelain doll-like faces, we all dream of it. But before we dive into that, how do pores even work?

Pores are tiny hair follicles that contain tiny hairs. It’s also where your oil and sweat glands are. Having oil and sweat come out of your pores is a way for your body to moisturize and detoxify your face.
However, if your pores secrete too much oil, with that also being mixed with dirt and bacteria, it can cause enlarged pores and overall, acne. On the other hand, if your pores don’t product enough oil, it’ll lead to dull, dry, and flaky skin.

The biggest myth with pores is that they can “open and close”. Your pores are not muscles, they do not change in shape. The gimmicks of washing your face with hot water “to open your pores” are a myth. Same with washing your face with cold water to close them. This can work due to cold water constricting blood flow to your face, but it’s a very temporary fix. If you have big pores, they are due to genetics.

So if your pores cannot open or close, how do you minimize them? What you CAN do is minimize how your pores look, by keeping them clean and dirt-free.

  1. Cleanse your face every night.

If you wear a lot of makeup, outdoor often, or produce a lot of oil, pick up a habit of cleansing your face every night! I recommend to double cleanse. Start by using an oil based cleanser like Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm or Milky Jelly Cleanser. Afterwards, cleanse your face with your favorite water based cleanser. I use Pure Pearlsation Revitalizing Facial Cleansing Foam to thoroughly cleanse my face.

REMINDER: to never sleep with your makeup on! The oil mixed with makeup will make your pores become trapped with debris and cause acne and can enlarge your pores.

  2. Invest in a retinol.

Retinol is one of my favorite active ingredients because it lifts dead cells to reveal and promote smoother, softer skin, giving your face an overall appearance of smaller pores. My personal favorite is the Time Revolution Night Repair New Science Activator Ampoule by Missha. It contains a low dose of retinol that helps with cell turnover and gives your face a more hydrated and moisturized feel and look, which will make your face look smooth and poreless.

  3. Mask often with active ingredients!

Some of my face masks contain various AHAs, BHAs, etc. The active ingredients will definitely clear out your pores, giving you smooth, soft skin! I recommend to mask once a week or every two weeks.

The Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask or Super Reboot Resurfacing Mask are both like facials in a jar. They pack a punch and will give you the results of clear, bright, pore-less skin!

P.S. Always wear sunscreen when dealing with active ingredients! Plus, it won’t cause dark spots on your face to become even darker, giving the illusion of bigger pores. (You should always be wearing sunscreen!)
