What Are Sleeping Masks? and Do They Work?!
If your skin gets particularly dry in the winter, sleeping masks are PERFECT for you.
So, what are they?
Essentially, sleeping masks are masks jam packed with moisture to give you soft and hydrated skin. You apply it as a mask before you go to bed and leave it on overnight for intense moisturization.
Do they work?
There are currently many sleeping masks on the market that target all skin types. You do not have to only have dry skin to use them! I personally have oily, acne-prone skin and sleeping masks has changed my skin for the better.
How to use:
1. Apply a dime to quarter size amount to cover the whole face.
2. Get a good night sleep. (Optional: add a towel onto your pillow to prevent your mask from dripping)
3. Wake up and wash it off!
4. Enjoy hydrated, soft skin. :)
Regardless of your skin or weather, you can you them at any time if your skin needs a little pick-me-up. But during these cold, winter nights, they are absolutely a miracle worker for your face.
They work by giving your skin the ultimate hydration while you sleep! Currently when sleeping, your skin is repairing itself. By using sleeping masks, you're giving your skin an extra boost! I can personally say they work since I've always woken up with brighter and softer skin.
I purchased the watermelon mask because everyone was raving over it, so of course I had to try. It took me awhile to find it on the shelf in Sephora since it was often sold out. The Birch Juice mask was included in Sokoglam's Klog Box, when that had the Klog Box promo going on.
E Nature's Birch Juice Hydro Sleeping Pack has 74% Birch tree sap (to moisturize), chamomile (to help calm the skin), and plantain seed extracts to help revitalize your skin! It's also paraben, mineral oil, and fragrance free, and it's not tested on any animals! It's suitable for all skin types, so don't worry if you have oily skin, it still works just as great!
Ingredients: Betula platyphylla japonica juice, Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene glycol, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, PEG/PPG-18/4 copolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan oleate, Betaine, Ethyl hexanediol, Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, Glyceryl caprylate, Trehalose, Fragrance, Xanthan gum, Disodium EDTA, Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) oleosomes, Chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, Plantago ovata seed extract, Tocopheryl acetate, Hydrogenated lecithin, Polyglyceryl-10 stearate, Panthenol, Sodium ascorbyl phosphate, Glyceryl arachidonate, Glyceryl linolenate, Biotin, Folic acid, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin
Glow Recipe's Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask has watermelon extract (to hydrate and calm irritated skin), hyaluronic acid (this adds an extra hydration boost!), AHA (a gentle exfoliator to smooth and brighten skin, personally my favorite ingredient), and peony root. I absolutely love this one in particular because of how it smells! It smells exactly like watermelon candy. This mask is formulated without parabens and is also vegan and animal cruelty free.
Ingredients: Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Caulerpa Lentillifera (Seaweed) Extract, Simethicone, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit, Silica, Propanediol, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Extract, Musa Sapientum (Banana) Fruit Extract , Paeonia Suffruticosa (Peony) Root Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Ipomoea Batatas (Sweet Potato) Root Extract, Betaine, Beta Glucan, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Alcohol, Fragrance
I love the packaging, so of course upon opening, I was totally in love. I always love jars that come with mini spatulas. It really helps with preventing your fingers touching it/bacteria spreading into the jars.
Upon opening, the Birch Juice mask had a very soft smell. Kind of almost like baby powder. but once you apply it, the smell almost immediately disappears.
The texture is cream-like. It's very thin and opaque, yet it can still hold its shape.
Once applied, it's clear and feels oil like on the skin! Make sure to sleep with a towel on your pillow to prevent the mask from getting everywhere if you accidentally toss and turn.
This mask will look like a thin film on your face once you wake up.
Now onto the watermelon mask!
The scent was exactly like watermelon candy. I couldn't stop smelling it, it was great.
The texture is very slippery and oily-like. It won't clog your pores though!
Since it's so slippery, it was hard for me to scoop it from with the spatula. I just tilted the jar over and poured a bit on it onto my hands and applied it from there.
The mask absorbed really quickly, I had to make sure I covered all of my face because it absorbed so fast into my skin!
Once it's time for washing, it'll look completely dry on your face.
Both are absolutely amazing, I think it's just a matter of scent preference.
If you want a deep hydrating mask, E Nature's Birch Juice Sleeping Pack is the way to go!
If you're leaning more towards brightening and exfoliation, the Watermelon Glow is the better choice.
I personally love the Watermelon Glow Mask due to the scent and the fact that it has AHA. I'm a huge fan of products that both brighten and exfoliate! (This mask also contains fragrance and alcohol, so if your skin is irritated by these ingredients, I would avoid this product.)
If you need a sleeping mask in your life, these are my personal favorites that I think everyone should try! They're for all skin types and will make you glow!
